Island Wedding

I LOVE the islands.  This past weekend, I was on Vinalhaven for the wedding of Craig and Sarah.  Although it was overcast and cool, we had a lot of fun.

You couldn’t tell that it was cold.  But, all the people who attended are used to working in weather that is MUCH worse than this.  They partied and it was memorable.

The top 5 things you should do/not do at your wedding:

1.)  If we work together, please follow the suggestions I make at the reception.  It’s all about timing, and if you delay anything, it affects EVERYTHING.

2.)  Don’t drink too much alcohol.  It’s gonna ruin the party and your wedding night.  Really!

3.)  Be sure to thank your caterer, waitstaff and venue people.  Although they’ve been paid, it sure is nice to say “thanks”!

4.)  Don’t SMASH the cake into your bride’s face.  It will require a long time to clean it up, and a long time to get out of the dog house.  Note:  This does not count if you BOTH smash cake.  But it still will take a long time to get things back on track.

5.)  Don’t leave the venue for long periods of time.  It’s YOUR party, and if you disappear, your guests will also.  Unless that’s your plan….and if it is….it’s brilliant.

Dear Dave,

Ryan and I want to thank you so much for your incredible work at our wedding. From the first time we met with you, it was clear that you cared about getting to know us as a couple, and to understand what we were looking for in our special day. You listened, comprehended, and truly went the extra mile for us. It goes without saying that you brought a tremendous element of fun to our wedding reception, as our guests put on their dancing shoes to join in your wonderful entertainment throughout the entire event. The joy and laughter on every face on the dance floor says it all – you were just great! You listened both to our “must play” list and to our “please don’t play that!” list, and our guests and we had a terrific time. We are very grateful for all that you did for us, and for helping to make one of the most special days of our lives even more wonderful. Thank you so much!

Wedding Thank You Notes Part 2

First thanks so much for a first rate job. We had a wonderful time and received many compliments on the wedding and reception. Many people specifically mention the entertainment as a highlight.

We commend Dave to anyone who wants quality entertainment for their reception or function. Our wedding reception was a wonderful time for everyone thanks largely to Dave and his ability to keep people on the dance floor. Dave is very conscientious and organized. He greatly helped the evening flow and made a great MC as well as DJ. We cannot recommend him highly enough. Our only regret when planning the reception is that we couldn’t use a band. Now we are very thankful it didn’t work out.

Wedding Thank You Notes….part one

If you’re interested in hiring me, please read this:

Dear Potential Client of Mr. Dave Winsor,

                Dave is one of the best in his trade. We talked with quite a few disc jockeys before we met Dave and the day we met him, we signed the contract. It was an instant liking – my husband and I could tell that he was right for the job.

                After our first meeting, we met once more face-to-face, but most of our interaction was via telephone and his incredibly organized website, where we picked out ALL our songs and he got all the facts about us as a couple. In fact, the night before our wedding day, I called Dave, checking on a few last minute details and he was very prompt in calling me back, and he had all the information I needed.

                On June 7, 2008, our day came. Dave arrived about 3.5-4 hours BEFORE the ceremony was to start to get set up. He had all his equipment working and it sounded great in the hall we’d rented. He played all the right music at the ceremony (and this is a big problem, as I have seen with other DJ’s) and it sounded wonderful. After the ceremony, I felt very comfortable leaving my guests in his very capable hands while we took our wedding photos. In fact, upon our return to the hall, after dinner, while we were greeting our guests, we received several comments from quite a few people about Dave, saying he was not only entertaining, but he was very well-spoken. After our introductions, my husband and I went to the dance floor where Dave told our “story” to everyone there and did such a good job!! Our dance was amazing, and the right song was played (another problem that I have encountered in other weddings).

The evening went quite smoothly; our guests had a great time, and Dave was very much a part of the wedding in so many ways. Multiple times, I would see him talking with our guests, taking requests, and doing more than just sitting in a chair playing music. He truly is an entertainer, and I couldn’t have hired a better person for the job.  I’m so grateful that Dave directed our wedding, and I know he would do an excellent job with your event, too.
